We recommend you print this checklist using the PRINT button displayed below and provide it to the person who will assist you in practicing your driving road skills. Your driving instructor (Parent, Guardian, Friend, Spouse or Instructor) should review this list and guide you through the list to ensure that you have followed the requirements of each skill.

The road test will be 20 to 30 minutes in length, and you must demonstrate good driving practices, skill and control of your vehicle.

Checklist for Alberta Class 5 Road Test

Starting - includes releasing handbrake and operation of all vehicle controls such as: hazard light, turn signals, headlights, wipers, mirror, horn and seatbelt
Stopping
Turning - includes indicating ahead of the turn
Traffic signs
Traffic lights
Passing vehicles - includes indicating & shoulder check
Driving in passing lane
Travelling through controlled intersections - includes visual checks
Travelling through uncontrolled intersections - includes visual checks
Parallel parking on flat surface, uphill or downhill - includes indicating and wheel position, and engaging & releasing handbrake when appropriate
Reversing - includes visual checks
Staying aware of dangerous conditions and reacting appropriately
Periodic visual checks (moving your head slightly tells the examiner you are aware). Tip: Avoid, if possible, wearing dark sunglasses that prevents examiner eye check.
Emergency stopping - includes indicating your intentions and use of emergency lights
Use of good judgment pertaining to vehicle and pedestrian right-of-way
Forward parking - engaging & releasing handbrake when appropriate
Reverse parking - includes visual checks, and engaging & releasing handbrake when appropriate
Obeying posting speed
