We recommend you print this checklist using the PRINT button displayed below and provide it to the person who will assist you in practicing your driving road skills. Your driving instructor (Parent, Guardian, Friend, Spouse or Instructor) should review this list and guide you through the list to ensure that you have followed the requirements of each skill.

The road test will be 20 to 30 minutes in length, and you must demonstrate good driving practices, skill and control of your vehicle.

Checklist for California Class C DMV Passenger Vehicle Road Test

Starting - includes releasing handbrake and operation of all vehicle controls such as: hazard light, turn signals, headlights, wipers, mirror, horn and seatbelt
Stopping - Visual checks, stops behind crosswalk or limit line
Turning - includes indicating ahead of the turn, slowing, correct lane usage at beginning and end of turn, yielding right-of-way, and reacting appropriately to hazards
Traffic signs
Traffic lights
Passing vehicles - includes indicating, mirror check & shoulder check
Driving in passing lane - Visual checks, shoulder check, speed & indicating
Traveling through controlled intersections – includes visual checks
Traveling through uncontrolled intersections - includes visual checks
Parallel parking on flat surface, uphill or downhill, includes indicating, mirror and shoulder check, wheel position, and engaging & releasing handbrake when appropriate
